Mary May-Yuarn Fong was born in Taiwan. Upon receiving her Bachelor Degree in Mathematics in 1982, she came to the United States for her graduate studies. She worked at Intel as a software engineer and obtained her Master degree in Math and Science in 1997 from California State University, East Bay.

In 2006, Mary studied at Los Rios Community College, University of California, Davis, and California State University, Sacramento to pursue her passion in art and received an Associates of Arts Degree from Los Rios in 2009 and completed her BA requirements. Immediately after, she participated in many art events and showings in various galleries and still does today.

In 2017, Mary received her MFA Fine Arts from California College of the Arts. She started her art practice in Sacramento area.
